Success Or Failure

Friday, August 16, 2013

[WARNING: This is going to be a long, wordy post which may bore some!]

Earlier today, I was having a conversation with someone whom I regard as a mentor. It got me pondering on quite a few things. So during my lone bus ride back home, plugged into my favourite sentimentals, it dawned upon me that I should write up on it as a self-reminder.

Success or failure? It's a question we tend to ask ourselves from time to time. I believe there are many of us out there who has felt down because of certain setbacks you have met. But, the question is, "Do you still have the determination to counter it and take the path towards success?".

Now, to touch on a few factors that contributes to failure. There are generally 2 main factors; Internal and external. More on this below:

Internal

1. Complacency - Now, this killer word is capable from bringing you from sky-high or almost there to a zero! Many a times, we let our success or improvements get into our heads. We take it for granted to such extent that we end up neglecting to keep up with what we are doing. Not a good sign, I must say, because all our efforts previously will just come to naught with this continuous bad habit.

2. Character - Egoism, laziness, lack of self-esteem etc. I believe all these negative qualities are self-explanatory. Habits, once practiced long enough can become part of us, which in turn, equates to our character. And habits itself, are mostly picked up from external factors, which brings me to the next point.

External

1. Peers' Influence - This is something that many of us have been there and done that, I assume. We get swayed from our principles by our friend's actions and comments for fear of being ostracised by the group or simply because we choose to. Usually, we are aware of it's side-effects, but still end up doing it anyway.

2. External pressure - Admittedly, there are countless sources of pressure in fast-paced society like ours. Some of us may begin to crumble upon it being exerted and end up going downhill. In this case, I guess it's about learning how to handle the pressure and the difficulties we face.

3. Personal Upbringing - It's sad, but true. Some of us may develop traits contributing to failure due to upbringing. Because as a child, we start to learn. It's the stage where we absorb the fastest, so parents and guardians play a big part in educating us. As children, we unknowingly mirror the adults and start picking up traits from them, be it good or bad.

At this point, after recognising all these contributing factors, we start to reflect on ourselves and wonder how we can prevent it / improve on it. This is the time, the advice I've gotten, coupled with what I have reflected on, comes into place. It may not be the best advice, but I believe it's one of the stepping stones to true success.

How To Improve The Situation

1. Seek Advice From People - It's a good thing to constantly seek self-improvement. However there are times when we may not be the best person to judge for ourselves as there is something called "The Blind Spots". By seeking advice from people, I mean from people who genuinely care. They can be your family, your close friends and even your superior at work. Because these people who really wants the better for you will point out your blind spots and give you a more holistic view.

2. Evaluate - Now that we have received feedback, it is time for us to evaluate and weigh the pros and the cons. It is time to reflect on those feedback which were passed on to us. Do you think it makes sense? Be true to yourself.

3. Willingness To Admit One's Fault And Accept Constructive Criticisms - When we do ask for advice, be prepared for negative feedback. It is precisely because these people care, will they advice us on how we can make ourselves a better us. So embrace it and work on it! If we don't, then the first 2 points will just become obselete.

4. Self-Awareness - Very important point, which was pointed out to me. Yes, it's self-awareness. We have to be aware of our actions. It is something which many of us neglect. It is through self-awareness which will enable to constantly spot our mistakes and work on it. It is also through this point that may trigger us to stop ourselves from making the wrong move.

5. Perseverance - Changing one's habit isn't not going to be easy. For that matter, we may fail a million times before we get to our destination. Hence, without perseverance, what success is there to speak of? Giving up shouldn't be an option despite the tough route.

6. Humble - Always be humble and stay grounded. As mentioned earlier, complacency is a killer! No matter how successful you are, be humble, stay grounded. And never, ever let the success get into your head. There is a fine line between self-confidence and over-confidence.

Having all these said, I do not consider myself a successful person. In fact, I was just in the situation mentioned at the start of the post. But slowly and surely, I am striving to follow these steps towards a better me. (:

Sakura International Buffet Treat

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Hello, my fellow readers ~! (: So yesterday, the boy picked me up after work and decided to bring me for an impromptu buffet treat at Sakura International Buffet @ Tampines SAFRA. And me being me, the first thing that I chiong-ed for was the sashimi. Friends who know me well enough will know how much I love it!!

More pictures of the food we had! (: If you are wondering what that clove-looking thing is, it's actually squids. When it was first served, I even thought it was garlics! :X Hahaha, silly me! The food was kind of meh though, not as good as I thought. ):

Then, there was what the chinese calls "dou miao" and salmon teriyaki as well. The salmon teriyaki was pretty okay in my opinion. However, the boy kept gobbling up the dou miao. It's one of the rare moments I've seen him eat so healthy! Hahaha!! Opps! :X

My favourite dishes for the night! Golden sand prawns and boiled prawns. The shell of the boiled prawns came out really easily, which in turn meant it was really fresh and well-cooked. It was one of the best dish of the night in my opinion. (:

Apart from that, of course, was the Ben & Jerry's ice-cream with their in-house brownies. Really heavenly! XD The thought of that is making me salivate already... Too bad I was too full from the sashimi feast to finish the ice-cream that I took. ): Overall, I thought the spread there was just average. It seems that the standard have dropped (from what I last remembered).

Last but not least, I also received my first birthday card from Xcellink! (: For the past year, they have never failed to send me a card. Thank you so much for your effort. ^^ Speaking of which, it makes me feel so old that my 22nd is in less than 2 weeks time. :/ Ohwells.... I definitely hope this year is going to be a blast. (:

Rainy Tuesday x New Samsung Galaxy S4 Cover

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Hey there ~!! How has your Tuesday been? Mine was a lazy lazy one with the perfect weather to sleep in.. But there I was, 8 in the morning, dragging myself up for work.... )': I wish I could sleep in, I really do!! *Inserts puppy eyes*

However, once I reached work it was an entirely different issue with both my lovely colleagues here. We were joking around the whole time. (Pardon my QQ fringe, it's not exactly a good fringe day. :/)

So, during lunch, I finally got to try the fish soup beehoon with milk.... Honestly, I think it was just so-so! Pretty disappointing since I saw so many people having that. My all-time favourite stall is still the one at Tanjong Pagar PSA Complex. That totally beats this stall hands down ~!! Best of all the fish soup stalls I've tried to date! (;

In addition, my baby S4 also had "new clothes" for the day! ^^ Got this super cute nautical, polka dotted theme cover from Serangoon, NEX Shopping Center after work yesterday. (;

Being a nautical theme lover, I knew I had to grab this when I set my eyes on it weeks back, while there with my friends. SO HERE IT IS!! XD I'm super into the smooth, matte feeling of this cover. (If that even makes sense.) And for $15, I thought the price is pretty ok!

For those who are interested, they are located at the cinema level of NEX and the name of the shop is Benoi Mobile Accessories. They have a selection of cute covers there. If you are thinking of getting a new cover for your phone, you can consider going down!! (:

Back to Work After A Long Weekend

Monday, August 12, 2013

Back to work after a long weekend! So, this morning was really hectic with me rushing to the bank before work to get my debit card replaced because my itchy hands decided to tear the damaged film off the card and ended up REALLY damaging it!! ):

My team lead was even joking with me how I spent too much which was why my card got damaged. Lol!! :3 Anyways, I think it's super cool how the new DBS card has this pay wave function, though not many places has it yet.. (Okay luh, I know it has been around for sometime and I'm damn lag.) Ohwells!!

Then, off to work. Got myself my favourite iced chai tea latte and breakfast wrap for brunch while on the way.... (: By the time I got to the office however, the wrap was already soggy. )': Note to self: Never dapao anything that can get soggy for lunch! (Stupidest thing to do!)

In the end, I didn't even finish it. Really wasted. I still have half the wrap lying here right beside me now! Opps! :X

Pet Neon Red Crayfish

Sunday, August 11, 2013

Hello all ~! I just got 2 new pets and wanted to share the joy with my readers! (: Most people would keep dogs, bunnies, even fishes or hamsters as pets... But me?? 2 super cute neon red crayfishes! I've had the brown one in the above picture for about 2 weeks now. He seems pretty passive, mostly hiding behind the rock in his tank.

He only comes out of his hiding place during feeding time and scurries back into his hide-out once he senses any movements ! Oh, and he loves to dig under the gravels until he finds a secure hiding place as well. What a shy boy indeed! (P.S If you were wondering how I know about his sexuality, read on! ^^)

On the other hand, I just got this super bright orange cutie at a fish farm in Pasir Ris today. (: So far, she has been really active and I've witnessed her trying to escape from her tank so many times ! Thank God the tank has a lid or she might just end up missing in action !!

Since she is slightly bigger in size, I gave her a bigger home. However, her tank is still relatively empty and I am thinking of getting some plastic plants or a small rock for her to hide. Might be going back to the fish farm for those when I am available! (:

So, after all these he/she talk, you must be puzzled as to how I managed to differentiate the sexuality of my pet crayfishes. Here's how!! (Refer to the diagram below.) Pretty interesting, huh? (;

If you are thinking of getting one as a pet now, you can get them at aquarium shops or even fish farms. They are relatively hardy creatures, but if you do not have a big tank, it's best to keep only one, as they tend to fight.

Apart from that, they require a lot of oxygen as well, so if the water is overhead, it'll be advisable to put oxygen bubbles. Alternatively, you can just put a little bit of water (just slightly below their head) and you will be fine as well! (: Either way, don't forget the anti-chlorine!

As for food, I will feed them just once a day with floating pellets and change their water every 1.5 weeks or so.

Just a little tip: When the water temperature gets a little warm (inevitable in this humid climate of Singapore), you can add some ice cubes into their tank to help cool down the water temperature. Shell creatures usually prefer lower temperatures. Overall, I find them pretty interesting pets and relatively easy to keep. (:

(P.P.S Do you own a crayfish or any interesting pets as well? Feel free to drop a comment and share your experiences below.)

The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask Review

Saturday, August 10, 2013

Hi all, I am back again ~! Since it's the long weekend, might as well take the opportunity to fill up this space before I get back to work and start to neglect it again.

In this post, I am to do a review on The Bodyshop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask which I got sometime ago. Been using it on a weekly basis ever since.. (:

Here is how it looks like inside. I know it looks gross, muddy and all !! But it has been pretty effective, at least for me. So, do not judge a book by it's cover. Gross looking things can have a good effect too ! =P

And the before and after picture of doing the clay mask. I am sure you can tell the difference. I am having a breakout and it just looks so terrible, but after the facial session, it looks so much better ! :D

Of course, for every product, there are pros and cons. Now, I am going to share it with you (Note!: This is only my personal experience, it may differ for you.)

Pros

1. Effective in controlling oily face.
2. Skin feels smoother and tighter after usage.
3. Skin feels cleansed, some blackheads removed.
4. Dries up fast, not messy.
5. Face brightens up after usage.
6. Pretty cheap for a clay mask, at only $30+.

Cons

1. Needs to be washed off after usage.
2. Personally, I dislike the minty feeling as it is too strong.

Overall: 8/10 (Highly recommended!)

If you are feeling tempted, you may get yours now at all The Body Shop outlets. (:

(P.S This is not a paid ad, just a personal review of a product I bought with my own money.)

The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Mist Review

Friday, August 9, 2013

Happy National Day, fellow Singaporeans ~! (: While at work recently, I found out about something interesting, which I thought would be good to share with you all, especially the girls.

So, I am sure many of you girls have heard of the awesome reviews on this Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Mist on the skin.... But did you know, that it is useful for frizzy hair as well? As crazy as it sounds, yes, it actually works !

I've always had frizzy hair ever since I rebonded it recently. The ends are literally damaged !! So, I cultivated the habit to carry a hair serum with me, but I forgot about it when I changed bags and was looking through my bag when saw this...

Me being me, I thought to myself, if it helps to hydrate the face, then what about hair? And spritz some on. To my surprise, it really worked !! See the before and after picture ??? (:

Being curious, I looked at then list of ingredients and realised there is rosewater in it... So I googled and found this article: http://makeupandbeauty.com/rose-water-hair-care/ (Check it out !!) So cool right?? You can try it too. (:

Sidetracking a little, I bought some interesting teas at Mark & Spencer last Sunday, during my first trip to JEM. Being a lover of teas, I decided to grab a few to try. Will do a review on these teas soon, so stay tuned. ^^

Sashimi Feast @ Sushi Tei

Thursday, August 8, 2013

It's been awhile, you all ~!! So, for the first time of my life, I tried the uni sashimi at Sushi Tei @ JEM. Sashimi has been my biggest love ever since I've remembered and I've always wanted to try uni.

However, upon knowing that it's sea urchin, I would say none of my friends that I've gone to Japanese Restaurants with dared to eat it! ): What a disappointment... And since it's really hard to prepare, uni sashimi is usually a little pricey, so I never ordered it.

Until I was out with the bitch last Sunday, she suddenly suggested trying that. I was surprised, yet happy that finally, someone dared to try it with me! :D

The feeling of having that lucious piece of uni in our mouths is just orgasmic !! The serving was pretty generous for $38 and  it was really flavourful. Totally loved it ~!!

In the end, our total bill came up to around $122, for just 2 ladies! Talk about pigging out! :/

To end off this post, here's a picture of the bitch and myself with our uni. ^^ Look at our excited + satisfied faces ~!! This is a definite must-try for all sashimi lovers if you do visit Sushi Tei. Our next target is the pufferfish sashimi, if we can find it! (;

(P.S Are you a sashimi lover as well? Feel free to share any restaurants which serves awesome sashimi !)
